The Tooley Street Triangle
The Tooley Street Triangle is a striking new landmark and wayfinding beacon outside the entrance to London Bridge Station. It was commissioned by Team London Bridge and The London Festival of Architecture and designed by Charles Holland Architects.
The Triangle is a symbol of celebration and welcome as London’s streets come to life once again with visitors, commuters and Londoners, and the latest in the LFA’s ongoing series of public realm improvements across London.
It is conceived as a map come to life, helping people who use London Bridge to find their way around the area, and transforming an overlooked piece of pavement into a local landmark and meeting point. It has three elements: a scale map of the area around London Bridge applied directly onto the pavement, a wayfinding beacon with local directions and information, and a bench for passers-by to take a breather.
We were appointed as wayfinding consultants working closely with Team London Bridge and Charles Holland to design the typographical elements to the map and beacon, ensuring they complemented the architectural design and colour palette as well as meeting accessibility standards.
The Tooley Street Triangle forms one of several elements of the Borough High Street Business Low Emission Neighbourhood (LEN) delivered alongside Better Bankside, and funded by the Mayor of London, who provided £200,000 towards a range of improvements in the area.
